Purpose of the Study: Parasocial relationships are a form of relationship that people have with television and media personalities. This survey explores the functions and characteristics of such relationships. No personal or identifying data will be collected: all responses will be anonymous. At the conclusion of data collection, the survey will be "closed" and raw data will processed solely by Thomas Phillip Madison and exported to a statistical analysis software file format. All original data will be destroyed once the investigators are satisfied with the collection process and their data set has been converted to data analysis format.

Benefits: Louisiana State University students are offered extra credit for Manship School courses. Other benefits are to the researchers who will use the data to explore imagined interactions and media use among respondents. There are no benefits for respondents outside of the Manship School.

Risks: There is no known risk involved with the survey used to collect data for this study. Participants are free to refuse to participate, drop out, or skip questions with which they do not feel comfortable answering.

Right to Refuse: Subjects may choose not to participate or to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty or loss of any benefit to which they might otherwise be entitled.

Privacy: Results of the study may be published, but no names or identifying information will be included in the publication. Subject identity will remain confidential unless disclosure is required by law.

If you are a Manship School student under the age of 18, STOP. Do not take this survey. Please contact the primary researcher for an alternative extra credit opportunity.
